Decontamination of the Underground Water
For cleaning the underground waters of organic pollution the enzymatic-degradational principle
is used mainly on liquidation of the pollution caused by petrolic substances having the input
concentration up to 5 mg.l-1 of non-polar extractable substances, respectively of other types
of higher hydrocarbons ( the free phase must be removed by different methods ). The depth
limit of the saturated zone moves in dependence on the permeability of the rock environment.
The worser is the permeability cofficient, the lower is the depth capacity.
The Principle of the Method:
A suitably designed network of pumping and infiltrating wells or infiltrating trenches
connected with the treatment station is used for cleaning the underground water. The polluted water from the well or the retentive container is conveyed by utilization of gravity or pump
to the treating station. In the treatment station the degradation of pollutants present in the
water and the aeration of the water is realized by means of gravitational, coalescent and
sorbtion filters. Simultaneously, the necessary quantity of ENZYMMIX is applied by the
dosing device. The water with enzyme content is transported back to the rock environment by
soaking in the infiltrating wells or trenches, respectively by means of free surface flow in
direction of the streaming of underground waters, in dependence on the locality of pollution
and distribution of the pumping wells. This process may, if hydrogeological conditions enable,
run continuously. If it is not possible, this process is executed by a system of pulsative
pumping, when the pumping and also the outflow are defined on the basis of hydrodynamic
tests of concerned locality.
For tracing of the enzymatic decontamination process waters samples are taken
in regular intervals and on the basis of their evaluation a dosage and number of
applications are stated. This method enables, in the case of pollution with petrolic
substances, to purify gradually the underground water in a relatively short time
reaching the requested level which is under 0,2 mg.1-1 usually.
In actual cases of the area decontamination the particular methods and
procedures are combined one with another. At the decontaminating works it is always
unavoidable to remove or by suitable means to prevent the further dotation of the
rock environment with a contaminator. The above mentioned methods can by utilized
also on the liquidation or final sedimentation of various liquid wastes that are
produced in the industrial production and in other spheres of human activity ( cleaning of tanks, consolidated surfaces and contaminated sewage waters in consequence, ... ).
