The Enzymatic Method of Decontamination
,, ENZYMDEG "
An unambiguous result of researches in the field of decontamination is represented by the fact that
decontamination of ground, underground water and consolidated surfaces must be fast, effective and definitive. On
the basis of recent knowledges, this fact is approached the most by the method of decontamination utilizing
enzymatic preparations of the animal origin that are capable of cracking petroleum and petrolic derivates
quickly and by achieving the final effect . The development in the world and in our country, too, has overcome
also this problem. The method of isolation and production of such enzymes has been developed by the Slovak company (Slovak Patent). On the basis of these facts has been developed a fully new method of
decontamination of consolidated surfaces, soils and underground water that were contaminated by petrolic
substances and which supposes a complex and absolutely resolute approach to the problems. The new method
of enzymatic degradation of petrolic substances provides the environmentally requested status. The method of
decontamination resides in application of the ENZYMMIX water solution that is actually a special mixture of
hydrolytic enzymes in a specified, exactly balanced relation. The final products of the decontamination are
hydrocarbonic chains of the length from C3 to C7 and CO2 and water in the final step. Whereas the
enzymes do not contain oxidases, only hydrolases, there does not exist a case of production of glycerols and
substances similar to them, i. e. none environmentally unacceptable substances for the living environment are
created.
The Advantages of Application of the ENZYMDEG Method
- the enzymes very effectively degradate contaminators of petrolic substances´ sorts ( NEL, PAU, CLU, PCB )
- we can apply the enzymes with respect to the final aim, and according to the extent, amount and sort of
contaminators
- the treatment works by enzymatic degradation are carried out ,,in situ" mainly
- at the contamination of solid surfaces like concrete surfaces, built-up surfaces etc., the afflicted territory is
sprinkled with the solution of enzyme and water. The penetrating enzymes crack the petrolic substances ,,in situ".
- the enzymes are self-destructive and do not leave any undesirable rests behind themselves in the treated
environment
- the method of enzymatic degradation of contaminators of petrolic substances´ sorts in solid and liquid substrates
is fast, effective, definitive and what is important, it is also cheaper than recently utilized methods.
Quality of Decontamination
The mixture of enzymes does not split all components of the petrolic substances and of their derivates
equally. The speed of cracking depends on the length of the hydrocarbonic chains, respectively on the sort of the
aromatics.
The sequence of cracking is in decreasing order of effectivity as follows:
Phenols
Kerosine
Petrols
Diesel oil
Crude oil
Transformer oils ( PCB )
Engine oils
Synthetic engine oils
Benzene
According to the facts known and verified up to the present, the ENZYMDEG enzymatic method of treatment
can by utilized at:
- decontamination of soils and underground water
- decontamination of railway gravel beds
- decontamination of solid and consolidated surfaces
- decontamination of concretes
- sewage cleaning
- cleaning of storage containers, tanks and pipelines
As far as the enzymatic preparations are concerned, they are produced on the basis of non-bacterial enzymes
with high decontaminative effectivity, obtaining of which is protected by a patent in our contry and so is it abroad. Utilization of enzymatic preparations does not leave the secondary contamination of terrain untreated like
it is in the case of utilization of bacteria, because the enzymes are self-destructive and do not leave any
undesirable rests, neither ecological nor for the human health.
